Bornova’s children step behind the camera

Bornova Municipality organized a special workshop to introduce cinema to students on summer break and help them spend their time in a fun and creative way. Children aged 9–14 participated in the “Children’s Film Club” workshops, where they enjoyed learning while having fun. The young participants experienced the filmmaking process, learned about sound and video equipment, and even created their own stop-motion films.

The program, carried out by the Bornova Municipality Film Office (BBFO), hosted 24 children who took part in hands-on training covering film history, the basics of filmmaking, camera and sound equipment use, stop-motion animation, and green screen techniques. Alongside the theoretical lessons, they wrote their own short film stories, created storyboards, and practiced using cameras and audio recorders. They also explored stop-motion animation techniques with phones and tablets, as well as green screen applications. At the end of the workshops, participants shared their thoughts and feelings about the experience in writing.

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that they will continue to support such events that nurture children’s creativity, stating:
“These workshops, which bring together technology and creativity, allow our children to have fun while learning to think, question, and produce. As Bornova Municipality, we are proud to stand by them.”
