8,500 Years of Bornova Heritage Receives International Recognition

Bornova Heritage Map shortlisted among 4,500+ entries at the World Illustration Awards 2026

The Bornova Heritage Map, which presents Bornova’s 8,500-year history from Yeşilova Mound to the present day through a unique visual narrative, has been selected for the Longlist at the prestigious World Illustration Awards 2026 from among more than 4,500 submissions worldwide. This international achievement strengthens Bornova’s vision of transforming its rich cultural heritage into a globally recognized brand. Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki stated, “Bornova’s history is being carried into the future.”

The Bornova Heritage Map, a project that brings Bornova’s deep-rooted history into the digital world, has achieved remarkable international success by standing out among 4,500 entries submitted from across the globe to one of the most prestigious events in the illustration industry, the World Illustration Awards 2026.

Among the Top 500 Projects Worldwide

Following a rigorous evaluation by the international jury, the project earned a place on the Longlist in the Editorial category. As a result, it has been recognized among the world’s top 500 illustration projects, gaining the opportunity to represent the cultural richness of both İzmir and Bornova on the international stage. Through an original visual language, the project introduces the architectural heritage and cultural layers of Bornova, spanning from Yeşilova Mound to the present day.

Commenting on the achievement, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki said that the project is a great source of pride for the district’s identity:
