Mayor Eşki Visits the Family of a Bornova Martyr

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki visited the family of Infantry Specialist Sergeant Hüseyin Cankaya, who was martyred on May 24, 2022, in the area of Operation Claw-Lock (Pençe-Kilit), at their home in Çamdibi. The visit was filled with deeply emotional moments. Emphasizing that Bornova Municipality would always stand by the families of martyrs, Mayor Eşki stated that honoring and caring for the families entrusted to the nation by these heroes was a responsibility they considered a duty.

During the visit, hosted by the martyr’s father, Niyazi Cankaya, mother, Nazire Cankaya, brother Oğuzhan Cankaya, and sister-in-law Şevval Cankaya, Mayor Eşki spent time with the Cankaya family, whose grief remains as fresh as it was on the first day. He stated that they would always keep alive the memory of Infantry Specialist Sergeant Hüseyin Cankaya, who sacrificed his life in defense of his homeland.

“The Families of Our Martyrs Are Our Most Sacred Trust”

Stating that the families of martyrs are among the most sacred trusts entrusted to them, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki said:

“Our brother Hüseyin sacrificed his life without hesitation for the unity and integrity of our homeland. No matter what we do, it can never be enough to honor such great heroism. As Bornova Municipality, we stand by the Cankaya family at all times and under all circumstances, with all our material and moral resources. Every one of their requests is a duty for us. May our hero rest in peace.”

Emotional Words from the Grieving Parents

Expressing their gratitude for the visit, martyr’s father Niyazi Cankaya and mother Nazire Cankaya said that feeling the support of Bornova Municipality gave them strength.

Father Niyazi Cankaya said:

“The pain of losing our son burns in our hearts like an ember. Yet the fact that he gave his life for his homeland is our greatest consolation. We were deeply moved and proud that our Mayor came all the way to our home to share our pain and tell us, ‘You are not alone.’ Thank you for your visit.”

Mother Nazire Cankaya said:

“My Hüseyin loved this homeland dearly. It is very difficult to get used to his absence, but we find comfort in knowing that you have not forgotten us and that you share our grief. May God protect our state and our nation.”
