Strict Enforcement Against Sidewalk and Road Obstructions in Bornova

19 August 2026

Bornova Municipality Police Department teams carried out a comprehensive inspection in Yeşilova Neighborhood targeting unauthorized occupations that threaten pedestrian and vehicle safety. During the inspections, materials obstructing sidewalks and roads were removed, while necessary warnings were issued regarding containers and other items being used in violation of regulations.

Bornova Municipality continues its inspections to ensure that urban life remains orderly, safe, and accessible to everyone. As part of these efforts, Municipal Police Department teams conducted comprehensive inspections of streets, roads, sidewalks, parks, and vacant areas throughout Yeşilova Neighborhood.

Sidewalks Are for Pedestrians, Roads Are for Everyone

During the inspections, action was taken against practices that made pedestrian and vehicle access difficult or impossible. Posters, vehicle tires, umbrellas, and similar materials placed on roads and sidewalks by local businesses were removed, and necessary warnings were issued regarding unauthorized occupations of public space. Various items left in parks and vacant lots were also removed by municipal teams. In addition, owners of containers improperly placed on public property or along roadsides were given a deadline to remove them.

“We Will Protect Our Shared Public Spaces in Bornova”

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that maintaining order in the city is a shared responsibility of both the municipality and all residents, stressing that sidewalks and public spaces must be equally accessible to everyone.

Mayor Eşki said:

“In Bornova, sidewalks belong to pedestrians, and roads belong to all of us. We value the contribution of both our local businesses and residents to urban life. However, we cannot allow one person’s use of public space to obstruct another citizen’s right of passage. Our aim is not to issue fines, but to create a clean, orderly, and accessible Bornova where everyone follows the rules. Therefore, we first issue warnings and, when necessary, provide a period for corrective action. If violations continue, we will resolutely take the measures required by law.”

Inspections to Continue Across the District

Mayor Eşki added:

“We share Bornova and protect it together. While safeguarding our public spaces against unauthorized occupation, we will continue to work in communication and cooperation with our local businesses. Our goal is to create a Bornova where everyone feels safe and comfortable, and which sets an example through its respect for the rules.”

Bornova Municipality Police Department teams will continue inspections throughout the district targeting practices that negatively affect pedestrian access, vehicle traffic, and shared public spaces.
