19 August 2026

A Call for Civic Responsibility

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki began his workday at dawn in Küçükpark, the heart of Bornova. Meeting with residents heading to work and local shopkeepers opening their businesses, Mayor Eşki inspected the cleaning operations carried out by the Directorate of Cleaning Affairs, listened to residents’ requests, and received updates on ongoing work.

Inspecting the cleaning activities and the washing of garbage containers in Küçükpark Square, Mayor Ömer Eşki said:

“We start our workday early in the morning and work continuously, 24/7, for a spotless Bornova. Together with all our colleagues, we will continue working tirelessly for a cleaner Bornova. We also expect our residents to show the necessary sensitivity to help us maintain this cleanliness.”

Identifying Problems on Site

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki recalled that he starts each workday in a different neighborhood in order to identify problems on site and develop solutions together with the people of Bornova.

Eşki said:

“Küçükpark is one of our busiest areas, attracting people from all over İzmir. Thousands of Bornova residents pass through here every day, thanks to its proximity to the university, hospital, transportation hub, and metro. We met with them, listened to their requests for a better Bornova, and took note of their suggestions. Cleanliness is one of the most fundamental expectations of the people of Bornova. In this regard, I would once again like to thank all my colleagues, especially those in the Directorate of Cleaning Affairs, who take on a great responsibility and work tirelessly day and night to make our city more livable every day. As part of our goal of a Strong Bornova, we will continue working without pause, staying in the field, and maintaining direct contact with our residents.”

“The Best Cleaning Is Not to Litter”

While thanking the cleaning staff, Mayor Eşki also called on the people of Bornova to contribute to keeping the city clean.

Eşki said:

“The best cleaning is not to litter. We are all responsible for the environment we live in. If we all work together for a cleaner Bornova, we can make our city an even better place. Our shopkeepers can also help us by putting the waste accumulated in front of their businesses into the garbage containers when they close their shops in the evening.”

He called on residents and local businesses to show greater sensitivity and contribute to maintaining a cleaner, more livable Bornova.
