16 June 2025

With its “Bornova Environment Festival” held in Büyükpark, Bornova Municipality combined environmental awareness, recycling consciousness, and sustainable living with fun-filled activities. The event, enriched with eco-friendly workshops, exhibitions, and surprise gifts, drew great interest from the public. Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized the city’s goal to become a pioneer in sustainability, stating that they are launching an exemplary environmental movement for all of Turkey.

Throughout the event, stands, workshops, and stage areas in Büyükpark attracted intense attention from children, youth, and families. Photos taken during the festival captured the joyful spirit of eco-friendly Bornova—students experimenting with solar-powered ovens, young people creating artwork from waste, and children painting their own flowerpots.

From Waste to Art, From Footprints to Compost: Colorful Workshops

Under the slogan “Our Energy Comes from Nature,” the festival featured a wide range of creative activities, including carbon footprint measurement, compost making, solar oven building, and upcycling workshops. Participants were encouraged to reflect on their environmental impact and engage with sustainable solutions. Surprise gifts were given to attendees who brought recyclable waste such as batteries and used oil. Among the most popular attractions were the “Self-Watering Flowerpot Workshop” for children and the “Living Clothes Exhibition,” which blended fashion with environmental awareness.

Mayor Eşki: “We Are Starting a Nationwide Environmental Movement from Bornova”

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki stressed that environmental awareness should not be limited to special days but must be a continuous responsibility. Highlighting that the fight for the environment is a right not just for today but for future generations, he said:

“As Bornova Municipality, we are taking exemplary steps in recycling, climate justice, and sustainability. Today, alongside civil society, youth, and children, we listened to the voice of nature. From Bornova, we are launching an environmental movement that will serve as a model for all of Turkey.”

Mayor Eşki also noted, “Local governments are the most critical actors in the implementation of environmental policies. That’s why we are committed not just in words but in action as well,” adding that new projects will be launched to strengthen Bornova’s green transformation infrastructure.
