Children’s Rights Day Sparked Hope in Işıkkent

28 November 2025

Mayor Eşki: “We will bring Işıkkent to the same level as every neighborhood in Bornova.”

Bornova Municipality continued its World Children’s Rights Day events in the Işıkkent Urban Garden, offering children a day filled with sapling planting, science workshops, street games, and ecological book sets. Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized their determination to bring Işıkkent to the same standard as other neighborhoods in Bornova and stated that investments in the area would continue at full speed. Işıklar Neighborhood Headman Necati Karabulut highlighted the importance of protecting public services and thanked Mayor Eşki for his contributions.

The World Children’s Rights Day activities, which started in Büyükpark, continued with an enthusiastic gathering in Işıkkent. Held in the Işıkkent Urban Garden under the slogan “A clean environment and a hopeful future are every child’s right!”, the program offered children the chance to plant saplings, sow winter vegetable seeds, and participate in workshops and science activities. Children enjoyed traditional street games and received the Ecological Children’s Life Guide Book Set. Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki attended the event with his daughter Asya Tuna, sharing in the excitement of the young participants.

“We will bring Işıkkent to the level it deserves”

Speaking at the event, Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized the importance they attach to the region:

“Today is not only about children’s rights but also about reaffirming our determination to bring Işıkkent to the same level as any other neighborhood in Bornova. This is where I live, and it is my wife’s family’s village. Atatürk Neighborhood, Pınarbaşı, or anywhere else— Işıkkent will be no different. The children here have the same rights and value as all other children.”

Mayor Eşki also outlined the projects implemented in the area:

“We opened an Urban Garden for our women, and right next to it, we built a mini football field for children. Soon, we will transform an unused area into a lavender garden and a Misket Grape vineyard. We will turn Işıkkent into a place people want to visit. Streets will be resurfaced, and our neighborhood will become a place where people can breathe. Together, we will build a world where children can play freely in the streets.”

Headman Karabulut: “We will protect every service provided”

Işıklar Neighborhood Headman Necati Karabulut emphasized the value of the event for the community:

“We are very grateful to Mayor Eşki and his team for this long-awaited event. The Urban Garden and the mini football field next to it are extremely valuable for our neighborhood. We know more projects are on the way. Our duty is to protect and take ownership of all public investments. These services are built with the taxes we pay, for the benefit of our children.”
