Bornova Municipality Provides Training on Safe Agriculture and a Healthy Future

Bornova Municipality has added another environmentally friendly initiative to its efforts to protect human health and ensure the sustainability of agricultural production. Organized by the Directorate of Agricultural Services, the training program titled “The Effects of Agricultural Pesticides on Human and Environmental Health” informed farmers and environmental volunteers about common misconceptions regarding chemical pest control and safe application methods.

The training took place on October 21, 2026, in the Council Hall of Bornova Municipality’s Nevzat Kavalar Cultural Center. Hakan Örnek, an agricultural engineer specializing in agricultural engineering from the Bornova Plant Protection Research Institute, participated as the instructor. The program focused on sustainable agricultural techniques and raised awareness about the conscious and safe use of plant protection products, essential protective measures during pesticide application, and ways to minimize the environmental damage caused by chemical waste.

Key Rules for Reducing Environmental Risks

The training aimed to support agricultural development while preserving ecological balance and examined the potential long-term effects of agricultural pesticides on human health and the environment. Participants received detailed information on how correct dosage, proper timing, and the use of protective equipment are essential not only for their own health but also for protecting groundwater, soil fertility, and beneficial insect populations.

Mayor Eşki: “Healthy Soil Means a Healthy Future”

Stating that they are committed to supporting farmers in adopting modern, responsible, and safe agricultural methods in Bornova, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki said:

“Increasing productivity in agriculture is just as important as ensuring that agricultural production does not harm people or nature. The incorrect and uncontrolled use of agricultural pesticides poisons our soil and jeopardizes the safety of the food that reaches our tables. Through this training, which we organized in cooperation with the Bornova Plant Protection Research Institute, we aim both to protect the health of our farmers and to leave a clean environment for future generations. We will continue to support healthy, safe, and environmentally responsible agricultural practices throughout Bornova.”
