The Heart of Art Beat in Bornova

Ceramics and Tile Exhibition Featuring 400 Artworks Drew Great Interest

As part of Bornova Municipality’s Hobby and Skill Development Courses, the Ceramics and Tile Exhibition opened its doors to art lovers at the Hobby and Skill Development Course Center next to the Peterson Mansion. The two-day exhibition attracted significant attention. During his visit, Mayor Ömer Eşki said, “We dream of a Bornova that grows with art—and we are building it together.”

Where Creativity and Effort Converge

Organized by the Bornova Municipality’s Department of Cultural Affairs, the exhibition showcased nearly 400 original pieces created by students from workshops led by experienced instructors Şafak Akçura and Hülya Gül.

In Şafak Akçura’s workshop, 99 students presented works of freeform creativity. Meanwhile, 98 students from Hülya Gül’s workshop produced pieces in two age-based categories. Children displayed freeform artworks, while adults focused on the theme of “games.” Unique figurines inspired by chess sets, tic-tac-toe (xox), and the game of Go captured the admiration of visitors.

Chess Set Inspired by Yeşilova Mound

One of the most striking pieces in the exhibition was a chess set themed after Yeşilova Mound, created by participant Sevinç Çapkın Yemez. Drawing inspiration from artifacts unearthed at the excavation site, she donated the special chess set to the Yeşilova Mound Visitor Center. Yemez was specially thanked for her meaningful contribution.

Full Support for Art from Mayor Ömer Eşki

During his visit to the exhibition, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki carefully examined each piece and chatted with the participants. He remarked:

“Here, we see not only ceramics and tiles but also patience, effort, and creativity. We are collectively building a lifestyle intertwined with art in Bornova. Through these courses, which appeal to citizens of all ages, we aim to make art an integral part of everyone’s life. I sincerely congratulate our course participants and their dedicated instructors.”
