Mayor Eşki Calls for Solidarity and Festival Participation

Traditional “Dry Beans Day” Gathering at İzmir 3rd Industrial Site

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki attended the traditional “Dry Beans Day” event held at the İzmir 3rd Industrial Site, coming together with local tradespeople. While the industrial community thanked Bornova Municipality for its support during the recent flood disaster and infrastructure works, Eşki emphasized that they will always stand by the tradespeople. He also invited everyone to the Street Flavors Festival to be held on May 17.

Mayor Ömer Eşki joined the monthly traditional “Dry Beans Day” gathering organized by the İzmir 3rd Industrial Site, meeting with tradespeople in a warm and friendly atmosphere. During the event, he listened to their concerns and evaluated ongoing municipal works in Bornova.

“Tradespeople are the backbone of the economy”

Şenol Demirel, Chairman of the İzmir 3rd Industrial Site Board, highlighted the challenging conditions faced by tradespeople and emphasized the importance of solidarity. He noted that the rapid response of Bornova Municipality during the flood disaster in February prevented major damage:

“As tradespeople and artisans, we are going through a difficult period. We hope these challenging days will pass. Tradespeople are the backbone of a country. We are the ones striving for the development of our national economy. If it hadn’t been for the swift intervention of Bornova Municipality during the flood in February, our shops and businesses would have suffered serious damage. Mayor Eşki personally came at midnight and worked intensively until the next day.”

Demirel also referred to ongoing infrastructure and environmental works in the area, stating that asphalt works, tree pruning, drainage cleaning, and pest control are being carried out, along with stream cleaning supported by the Metropolitan Municipality. He thanked Mayor Eşki and his team for their efforts.

Eşki: “We will always stand by our industrial tradespeople”

Responding to the remarks, Mayor Ömer Eşki expressed his appreciation and reaffirmed the municipality’s commitment to supporting tradespeople:

“I thought we were just going to enjoy some dry beans, but we were honored with such kind words. I thank the chairman as well. Whenever our industrial tradespeople face difficulties, we are happy to stand by them. I was here during the nighttime asphalt works and also during the flood, as we tried to be present everywhere in Bornova. It is wonderful that you have turned this gathering into a tradition. We are always glad to be part of it.”

Industrial cuisine opening to Turkey

Eşki also spoke about upcoming events, highlighting an important initiative to promote Bornova:

“On May 17, we will host the Street Flavors Festival here, where Bornova’s industrial site will set an example for Turkey. Strong participation will be a significant step toward branding Bornova and introducing its industrial cuisine to the entire country. I invite all of you to join the festival and showcase your culinary culture to Turkey.”
