A Joyful Night of Folk Songs in Bornova

15 June 2025

The Bornova Municipality Turkish Folk Music Choir welcomed the summer season with an enthusiastic concert. Held at the Ayfer Open-Air Theater in Büyükpark, the “Hello to Summer” concert gave Bornova residents an unforgettable evening.

Under the direction of conductor Salih Sütoğlu, the choir masterfully performed Turkish Folk Music pieces compiled from all corners of Anatolia. The repertoire included beloved folk songs such as “Gökyüzünde Bölük Bölük Durnalar,” “Nemrudun Kızı,” “Nar Danesi,” and “Kırmızı Gül Goncası.” In addition to the choir’s performance, solo acts also received high praise from the audience.

Festive Halays Raised the Energy to Its Peak

The concert reached its peak when the audience joined in the songs and celebrated with halays (traditional folk dances) in front of the stage. The final performance, a “Halay Medley,” turned the stage into a scene of a folk festival. At the end of the night, participants showed their appreciation for the performers with prolonged applause.

Mayor Eşki: “Art Will Continue to Live in the Heart of Bornova”

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized the value placed on art and artists with the following words:

“The unifying power of folk songs was once again felt through this concert. We will continue our efforts to make folk music, theater, cinema, and all branches of art more visible in Bornova. Art will continue to live in the heart of Bornova.”
