International Gathering for Checkers in Bornova

4th International Tournament Held Once Again in Bornova

The 4th International Checkers Tournament, organized in collaboration between Bornova Municipality and the Aegean Checkers Association, took place at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Uğur Mumcu Culture and Arts Center.

A total of one hundred checkers players from across Turkey and abroad showcased their skills in a highly competitive atmosphere. The tournament concluded with Göksel Kaya taking first place, followed by Müslüm Çeri in second, Kadir Irmak in third, Murat Keser in fourth, and Rahmi Ekren in fifth place. The top players received their awards from Bornova Deputy Mayor Cem Arıkan.

Mayor Eşki: “We stand by traditional mind games”

Speaking about the event, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki stated, “We are proud to support traditional and culturally significant mind games like checkers. We aim to make Bornova not only a hub for science and art but also a center for sports and strategic games.”

Words of Appreciation

Honorary President of the Aegean Checkers Association Murat Keser and Association President Resul Gündüz thanked Bornova Municipality and Mayor Ömer Eşki for their support of the tournament. Gündüz emphasized, “Support from local governments is crucial for preserving cultural values like checkers.”
